As providers changed their database interfaces, the instructions I previously wrote were out of date. Clicking this link to view the updated instructions in PDF on how to import references from some of the databases heavily used by our UMDNJ users into EndNote X5. Importing References from the CINAHL Database

The University Libraries is pleased to announce the addition of a new Flash video on how to use EndNote.  This short video covers how to import references from the CINAHL database in EndNote.  Users will learn in minutes how to select references from a search done in CINAHL and then export those references into an EndNote Library.  You can view this Flash video by going to the University Libraries’ EndNote Help and Tutorial web page.

University Libraries EndNote Web Pages Redesigned

The University Libraries’ EndNote web pages have been redesigned to provide more, and easier to find, information on EndNote.   Easy to follow instructions on how to install and download EndNote for both PCs and Macs are now on a new EndNote Download Center web page.  Also redesigned is an expanded EndNote Help and Tutorial web page that better organizes and lists documents, and now includes the first of a series of new Flash video tutorials on how to use EndNote.  We hope you’ll find the new web pages an improvement over the previous version. Importing References from EBSCOHost CINAHL

References can be directly exported from EBSCOHost CINAHL to EndNote either individually on in groups.  To export multiple references save the references to the “Folder” EBSCOHost provides for printing/saving/emailing multiple references.  Note, when you log off CINAHL or close the browser window the references in the “Folder” will be deleted.  Click the Add to Folder link at the bottom of each reference or in the details pop-up window to save the reference to the Folder.  To add all the references from a search click the Add link located next to the Sort drop down menu located above and to the right of the list of references.

To access the references in the Folder use the link on the right hand side of your screen labeled Go to: Folder View.  Either check the checkbox to the left of each reference to select it, or check the Select/Deselect All checkbox to select all the references in the Folder.  Once the appropriate references have been checked click the Export link/icon located above the first reference.  It’s the icon with the arrow pointing to the right.  If you are in the detail view for an individual reference the Export link/icon is also located above and to the right of the reference.  Using the Export link/Icon in the detailed view will export only the reference being viewed.

On the next screen use the check box labeled Remove these items from folder after saving if you want to delete the references from the Folder after exporting them.  Make sure the Direct Export to EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager radio button is selected and click Save.

EndNote will launch automatically if it is not open.  References will be exported to the open EndNote Library, or if no Library is open you will be asked to select the Library you want your references sent to.
