EndNote X8 Now Available to Rutgers Users

EndNote X8 for Windows and Mac is now available for download by Rutgers users at http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/endnote. EndNote X8 is compatible with Mac OS Sierra (iOS 10.12). If you are using a Mac running Sierra, you must use EndNote X8, because EndNote X7.7 and earlier versions are not compatible with Sierra.

EndNote X8 Features:

  • Compatible with Windows 7-10 and Mac OS X 10.10 to 10.12.
  • The new intuitive icons are identical across both Mac and Windows, making it easier for users to identify icons.
  • Updated workflows for finding reference updates and enabling updating the whole set of references at once instead of updating one by one.
  • Possible to edit the updated references manually.
  • The Sync button in the Group Pane can be configured to sync or not to sync with EndNote online.
  • Only one desktop library can be synced with an online account.
  • When syncing a library different from the previous one synced, it will merge the libraries.
  • Sharing a library with up to 100 other EndNote desktop users.
  • Anyone sharing a library has editing rights.
  • The new Activity Feed feature allows users to see what their colleagues are doing in the Shared Library and when new members join.
  • Every X8 library includes a built in Recently Added group which can be customized, allowing users to pick up right where they left off in the research workflow.
  • Utilize unlimited file attachment storage in the online library.
  • Cite While You Write for Microsoft Word 2016

  1. Can we still use Endnote 7 on OS El Capitan? I am afraid to upgrade because last time it slowed the use of the computer tremendously…

    • I think so, but EndNote X8 has many new features. If you are using a mac running Sierra, then you must upgrade it to EndNote X8, as X7 is not compatible with Sierra. Please contact Clarivate Analytics technical support for EndNote at 1-800-336-4474 to confirm.
